Set Up: Gates all over the field

Each player with a ball, the initial goal is to dribble the ball between the gates.

Progression 1: Make a competition to stimulate them to dribble fast, and they will earn 1 point every time they dribble between the gates. Those who have fewer points will do something, example: 10 jumping jacks or a lap around half court.

Progression 2: In pairs, each pair will have one ball. One of the players dribbles the ball and the other runs together and the goal is to pass the ball facing each other on either side of the gate. OBS: make a competition to stimulate.

Coaching Points:

  • Keep the ball close to your foot
  • Give good and quick passes
  • Dribble with your laces
  • Dribble the ball fast between the gates


Driblbing #2

Set up: A line facing the goal, the 1st person dribbling ahead with laces, turn the middle cone and dribbling with sole left walking right side, turn the cone, dribbling sole right walking left side, turn the Center cone, dribbling outside foot , move to the next cone and turn it, dribbling sole with back move, dribbling sole right foot walking left side, turn the cone and dribbling sole left foot walking right side, turn the middle cone and dribbling sole with back move.

Progression: 1 dribbling with Ball other without, run and catch, clockwise/anticlockwise, follow the partner, the partner try to go behind the guy with the ball and unbalance him.

Coaching points:

  • Keep the Ball under your knees and closer
  • touch the Ball as many as you can
  • Keep your head up


Driblbing #3

Set up: Inside a circle everybody with a ball, dribling, the coach will show some dribbles name and number, and the guys will try to do the special moves and remember the dribble numbers.

Progression: Snake, step over, Maradona...

Coaching points:

  • One step one touch
  • Keep the Ball under your knees and closer
  • touch the Ball as many as you can
  • Keep the arms ninety degrees
  • Balance your body
  • Do it faster


Driblbing #4

Set Up: Make 3 lines and put cones in front of each line (as many you want). At the beginning, players dribble between the cones doing zigzag and go back to the line.

Progression 1: Do the cut with the inside and outside of the foot, always with both legs

Progression 2: You can use different ways to control the ball. Be creative!

Coaching points:

  • Dribble between the cones
  • Good cuts
  • Don’t touch in the cones
  • Good control


Driblbing #5

Set Up: One team in each corner of the court and ball in the middle of the court

Divide 4 teams and make 4 squares in the corners and make a square the middle with balls. The goal of the game is one player at a time runs to the middle, pick up a ball and dribble fast back to its square and the second one leaves when the first comes back with the ball. Encourage all types of dribbling including with the sole of the foot

Progression 1: Decrease the number of balls in the middle of the court and now teams can pick up the ball from the squares of opposing teams. Again, one at a time and the second only comes out when the first one comes back and leaves a ball in the square

Coaching Points:

  • Dribble fast
  • Look at the squares with more ball and take one of them Hustle to pick up the ball.
  • Heads up


Dribbling #6

1vs1 Drill with 2 goals (Recovering run):

Progression/Variations: Add give and go, throw in 2nd ball after the goal to work on a transitional moment, this could just be to goal 1vs1 again or have a target player to pass to, to create 2vs1 and then talk about creating widht, through ball for run, give and go, etc.

Encourage: Running with the ball close to you, use skills, change direction quickly, smart decisions with the ball, looking over your shoulder, quickly turns.

Coaching Points: Sprint, change direction quickly, check your shoulder, use your skills and turns, give and go, communicate

Drill Objective: 1vs1 situation to score a goal with recovery run from the defender. Defender pass the ball through the red gates and sprint for a transitional run. Forwards must do a first touch going outsite of the middle red cone and then must dribble and cross the yellow cones to be able to score a goal. Forward do the first touch one side, defenders must run to the opposite side.



Warm up Dribbling with Footwork/Fitness 7:

Progression/Variations: Use different footwork and runs, different ways of dribbling.

Coaching Points: Keep your head up while dribbling, keep the ball close to you, run in diagonal, delay (pace) your run, get the ball behind the player, accelerate.
